Moonstone gets its name from the opalescent shimmer which appears similar to moonshine. This shimmer is caused by the reflection of light from the internal structure. Moonstone is found in Burma, Sri Lanka, the U.S., India, Mexico, Brazil, Tanzania, Madagascar and the European Alps.

There are two types of pearls, natural and cultured. Natural pearls are rare, and as such, most pearls on the market today are cultured. Pearls are further classified as being saltwater or freshwater pearls. Saltwater pearls come from oysters in oceans, gulfs or bays. Freshwater pearls are found in mussels or oysters in lakes, rivers or ponds, and tend to be irregularly shaped and varied in color. A cultured pearl takes about three and a half years to grow.

Peridot is the name given to the gemstone olivine that is colored by the presence of iron. Peridot's color ranges from light lime gold to bright green to beautiful shades of olive. Nearly 80% of all Peridot comes from Arizona, but can also be found in Burma, Pakistan, Egypt, China, Australia, Norway, Brazil, South Africa and Hawaii.

Pyrite gets its name from the Greek word meaning fire, as it easily produced sparks when struck on steel. Pyrite ranges in color from brassy to gray yellow, and id often tarnished with a brown oxide film. Pyrite is often mistaken for gold, and this is why it is commonly called "Fool's Gold". Unlike gold, pyrite is very brittle and crumbles easily when hammered upon. Metaphysically, pyrite is thought to encourage cleverness and creativity.
